Overview: What is Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Coin?

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is an early cryptocurrency launched in 2017, resulting from a “hard fork” of the original Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain. The Bitcoin Cash network was created to solve some of Bitcoin’s issues, and it is faster and cheaper.

Are Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash the same? No, Bitcoin Cash shares some of the technicalities and features of Bitcoin and is a popular coin. However, the cryptocurrency community is still divided about whether Bitcoin (BTC) or Bitcoin Cash (BCH) will win as the leading digital asset. Bitcoin Cash’s price has yet to reach anywhere near the value of Bitcoin.

What Makes Bitcoin Cash Unique?

There are similarities and differences if you want to compare Bitcoin vs. Bitcoin Cash. Because Bitcoin Cash was a hard fork of the blockchain, the network is much more like Bitcoin’s blockchain than Ethereum or Cardano. It validates transactions using the same Proof of Work (PoW) hashing scheme. Bitcoin miners can switch to mining Bitcoin Cash and vice versa.

Innovations in the BCH network in 2023, namely the introduction of CashTokens, which allow smart contracts on the network, now allow dApp development directly on the Bitcoin Cash blockchain.

The most considerable difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash is the block size on the network. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) allows much larger blocks. It can process up to 200 transactions per second, each costing a fraction of a dollar compared to the much higher transaction fees on the Bitcoin (BTC) network. Bitcoin Cash was created to be suitable for use as a payment method, whereas Bitcoin is more a store of value like gold.

How Did Bitcoin Cash Start?

In 2017, Bitcoin network proponents and major Bitcoin miners initiated the SegWit2x upgrade proposal, which would see Bitcoin “hard fork,” much like a split, and block sizes increase to help Bitcoin work faster.

Some of the Bitcoin community opposed the proposal, believing it would decentralize the network and make it less secure. The Bitcoin community divide resulted in the fork and Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Bitcoin Cash supporters believe BCH is the cryptocurrency that supports Bitcoin’s original vision. The debate continues.

How Does Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Work?

Bitcoin Cash does work in a very similar way to Bitcoin. It is decentralized and uses PoW, or mining, to validate transactions on the network. As miners validate transactions using powerful computers and cryptography, they are rewarded with new Bitcoin Cash (BTC), which is minted and enters circulation. Like Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash will have a maximum circulation of 21 million coins.

What Are the Differences Between Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin?

We’ve already noted the most considerable difference in Bitcoin vs. Bitcoin Cash, and that’s the block size that makes processing transactions on Bitcoin Cash faster and cheaper. The network also needs fewer miners. Though the Bitcoin network is slower, it is deemed more secure because of this difference in configuration.

Faster transactions on the Bitcoin Cash network mean that it is more suitable to be used as a means of payment, like digital cash. Although Bitcoin is used to make payments, and many hoped it would become a digital payment mechanism, it’s evolved more as an asset class and an investment.

How Is Bitcoin Cash (BCH) Secured?

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has a blockchain or digital ledger like Bitcoin. This network uses a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism where miners “work” to validate transactions by solving cryptographic problems using powerful computers. The miner that solves the problem validates the transaction, which makes it digitally recorded and secured to the network. Though Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash have communities that work together to make decisions and improvements, the network is not centrally controlled, managed, or stored, adding to its security.

Where Can You Buy Bitcoin Cash (BCH)?

BCH is a popular cryptocurrency, though Bitcoin Cash’s all-time high has yet to reach as high as Bitcoin’s. The coin is available on most centralized and decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges and can be traded at most CFD brokers.

Most frequently asked questions about Bitcoin Cash

Is Bitcoin Cash a good investment now?

As with any cryptocurrency, Bitcoin Cash price can rise and fall. To decide if Bitcoin Cash is a good investment, begin by learning about Bitcoin Cash, watching out for Bitcoin Cash news, and understanding the crypto markets. Learn how BCH is used and the plans for the network and understand your risk tolerance.

What will Bitcoin Cash be worth in 2025?

For a Bitcoin cash price prediction, some estimate that Bitcoin Cash might be worth between $400 to $600 by 2025, but the cryptocurrency market is tough to predict accurately.

What is the highest price of Bitcoin Cash ever recorded?

BCH or Bitcoin Cash’s all-time high was $4,112.39 in 2017.

Is Bitcoin Cash better than Bitcoin?

Some people view Bitcoin Cash as a better investment because it’s accessible, has fast, cheap transactions, and is more scaleable than BTC. Others believe Bitcoin is better because it’s more secure and can be considered a store of value investment.

Why is BCH cheaper than BTC?

BTC and BCH prices are influenced greatly by supply and demand and other market influences. Demand for Bitcoin has remained higher than demand for BCH.

Does Bitcoin Cash have a future?

It’s hard to predict whether any, or which, cryptocurrencies will have a future, either as an asset or as a payment mechanism or native token to a thriving dApp ecosystem.
